From Technology Support to Strategic Leadership: How CESO Helped Transform a Rural Minnesota School District
The Story
When a rural Minnesota school district serving more than 4,500 students and 800 staff members experienced the unexpected departure of its technology director, district leaders needed more than someone to keep things running. They needed a plan for the future.
CESO stepped in to conduct a Technology Operations Assessment and provide fractional CTO leadership. Together, we identified opportunities to strengthen the district's technology infrastructure, improve cybersecurity, reduce costs, and better support staff.
The Outcome
Among the most significant improvements was the migration from an expensive cloud-hosting environment that was costing approximately $10,000 per month. CESO helped redesign the district's infrastructure, moving to a secure local hosting environment with enhanced disaster recovery capabilities. CESO also helped reorganize the technology department, promoting internal talent and creating a more efficient leadership structure.
The outcomes were substantial: lower technology costs, stronger security, improved network performance, and a technology team that shifted from reacting to day-to-day issues to focusing on long-term strategy and planning.
What started as an interim leadership solution became a lasting partnership that positioned the district for continued success.
